79. Hudson Mohawke “All Your Love” Satin Panthers [Warp]
“I never saw the man I see.”
The knot was so intimidating it stared back at her. Crevices between the snug pieces of rope were seemingly molded to create eye sockets, or so she had decided after zooming in with her mind’s microscope and trained her eye so long on the mess of ins and outs. She had given up hours ago, her head now hanging as low as it could given the additional knot tying up her hands behind the chair, as she gazed into the mocking chaos of braiding keeping her feet locked with the wooden legs. There was no standing up; she had already expended too much energy attempting that feat. There was no wriggling her upper limbs free without further dislocating her shoulder(s). But, she thought as a bead of sweat fell to the concrete, if there were a way to liberate just one of those ankles from the tangle she could feasibly hop over to the wall where the brittle back support could be broken to lead to escape. Her voice was hoarse, but as she saw the pool of perspiration collect on the ground she started whispering to herself how she would pull apart the knot if she had a free appendage. With enough concentration and peace, barring the muffled voices upstairs, she was able to imagine leaving the basement, getting on a bus, arriving home, taking a shower, and feeling loved instead of lost.
