77. Grouper “Moon is Sharp” A I A: Alien Observer [Yellowelectric]
Moment @ 1:51
Even when it was unseasonably warm out and the night was quiet with calm, the beach at Semper Bay no longer felt like a beach. The sand was white and iridescent no matter how dark the sky got, but it clumped hard under your feet, and sometimes just felt like a wet yoga mat instead of something luxurious or freeing. And the palm trees were just stumps now, yellowed and old as they stared like cyclops eyes scattered around the terrain. One day long ago, however, this was the place where ten years ago amongst the gentle waves and the serene moonlight I laughed with friends and howled at the stars like they were waiting to hear my call. We used to come here at least twice a week, sometimes more in the summer’s zenith, and everything felt crisp, regardless of the humidity or the soggy ambivalence of our workdays. The evening was ours and when each day that the sun went down we reclaimed it once again, as if we had never left that coast, never left each other. Now I come back here, knowing where everyone is and yet feeling like no one is a phone call or an email away. I should be happy knowing that at least I can always look back in fondness on those infamous excursions to Semper Bay, but even as I smirk at smiles in my memory I can’t help but feel the sadness sink in like my toes in the dirty tide.
